Summary
Magma Armor is an ability in the Pokémon series that serves a crucial protective role against the status condition of freezing. Pokémon endowed with Magma Armor are safeguarded from being frozen in combat, granting a distinct advantage when faced with Ice-type moves that might inflict this status condition. This unique ability allows the Pokémon to preserve their battle capabilities, effectively eliminating the risk of being momentarily disabled by a freeze, an event that would otherwise immobilize them, hampering any further actions.
Aside from freezing immunity, Magma Armor sports another fascinating function outside of battle. When a Pokémon featuring Magma Armor forms part of the player's party, it halves the number of cycles required to hatch Eggs. This characteristic renders it an indispensable ability for trainers deeply involved in Pokémon breeding, as it significantly quickens the egg hatching process.
A number of Pokémon boast of the Magma Armor attribute, with a majority linked to volcanic habitats or fire. For instance, Camerupt and Magcargo strongly align thematically with the essence of magma and heat, thereby underlining the logic behind the Magma Armor ability.
Effects
- This Pokémon cannot be frozen. If a Pokémon is frozen and acquires this ability, it will immediately thaw out; this includes when regaining a lost ability upon leaving battle. Overworld: If any Pokémon in the party has this ability, each egg in the party has its hatch counter decreased by 2 (rather than 1) each step cycle, making eggs hatch roughly twice as quickly. This effect does not stack if multiple Pokémon have this ability or flame body.
